NC Merit Pay Mess Update
The NC Board of Education met Wednesday November 2, 2022 and based on comments and reactions there appears to be quite a bit of support for the proposed revamping of the teacher licensure and compensation model called Pathways to Excellence. (sigh). So with that in mind we all need to raise our voices and be heard! Please take a moment to email all parties involved; the PEPSC committee, the State Board of Education and your legislators. Need help with an email? No worries! See link below! Already done for you! Just click and sign!

PEPSC is scheduled to meet November 10 and will probably vote and pass Pathways to Excellence. Then it will head over to the State Board of Education. With their approval, it will then go to the NCGA sometime in early 2023. If they vote and it passes, then it’s pretty much a done deal. It will be a deal that North Carolina will deeply regret. This will not make teacher’s lives better nor will it benefit NC public education in any way. Think there’s a teacher shortage now…just wait.
Email PEPSC & NCBOE and let them know how bad this will be for NC! Go ahead and start contacting your state legislators. Your house and/or senate representatives may change after the election so make sure you contact them after the election!

Who is Behind North Carolina’s Plan to Upend Teacher Pay?
Just remember, this will NOT benefit any teacher, any classroom, in any school, in any district, anywhere in the state of NC. Follow the money and you will see exactly who will benefit from this. (Hint: SAS).
If this really was a great idea then ask yourself why they have spent so much time, energy and money hiding this from the public? (Hint: they knew that it would be deeply unpopular with educators). Also, you don’t need a PR firm to help sell your idea if it’s a good idea. (They hired Eckel & Vaughn to handle the PR on this. Red flag this is NOT a good idea).
